OCZ ModXStream 600W enough for R9 290?

Hi all again,

I recently asked about a CPU upgrade and have decided that my best route is a GPU upgrade instead.

I currently have an OCZ ModXStream 600W power supply and a phenom ii x4 OC'ed to 3.9 Ghz, and a 1GB HD6950.

My two questions are
1) Is my power supply enough? I know it has 2 PCI-E connectors but I don't know for sure if it's powerful enough to power the 290.
2) Will I experience an appreciable performance bump in BF4

Solution
In theory, yes it will work.

Would I? Probably not. I bought the 700W version about 5 years ago on sale for the curious low price of about $40 after rebate. It died after about 3 years of only having to push about 250W max (an Athlon II 620 and GTX 460).

I'd go with a better PSU to keep my nice graphics card safe.

have to agree here. it will run the card but i would not try to oc any of it. you have 50 amps on the 12v rail and that card will use 25 under load. add in the rest of the system and your looking at falling just below the safe zone for psu usage on a QUALITY psu. so a less than stellar psu running at 75% capacity is about all i would try to push it.

you can do it but i think most would recommend a quality psu to go with such a good card. for instance this is a great sale price right now and would guarentee you're in good hands

such a great card deserves a great psu to go with it. would you put regular gas into your ferrari? or $25 pep boy tires? same with that gpu. it deserves more :D

edit: i am not saying you need 750 watts just that this price is really good for a great psu. you can get away with 600 quality watts but right now it costs more than this one.

Is it the Pro? if so it got pretty good reviews... 5 years ago. Considering its age, the fact you are overclocking, and most 290s use two 8 pins and you only have one and a 6 pin. Plus the amount of power you'll draw... 300W GPU and 150W CPU with overclocking. Then everything else. I really would not risk it. It might run but not worth frying everything.
