I am thinking about buying the full version of Windows 8.1 from amazon for around £80.

My question is, if I install this OS on one laptop can it be done again with another laptop or do I have to buy another copy of Windows 8.1?

Your copy of windows is tied to a cd-key/serial, that serial decides if you can install it on several computers, not the media the OS comes on. One serial = one install. SO, basically, I'd say no, the serial isn't valid for two running laptops connected to the internet but it should be valid for another computer in the future if it's uninstalled.

'Factory settings' has nothing to do with a Windows install that you buy and install. Factory settings relates to a prebuilt, preinstalled system.

You can reinstall on that PC as many times as you want.

You don't have to pay for another copy if you want to recover factory settings. Make sure before installing Windows 8.1 you have burn your factory default installation image that came with the PC or laptop (Windows 7/Vista)into a blank DVD probably around 4-5 blank DVD.
