I have a dvi to hdmi cable and need a vga to hdmi

Is it possible to cut the dvi end off, strip the wire, and attach the head of a vga cable to to to make a vga to hdmi cable

Solution
DVI and HDMI are both digital, and VGA is analog. A few TV's have the VGA input...but that is becoming rare. The converter boxes are usually $50 - $150. DVI can output in digital or analog - and typically have a DVI to HDMI or DVI to VGA cable available (no converter required, the GPU will automatically adapt). Since the VGA is analog only, a converter box is the only option using a VGA output.

No.

It would be great if you could return the cable. If not, I guess you're out of luck.

Edit: Also I just realized what you were trying to buy. There is NO such thing that will actually work.
Something like this:http://www.amazon.ca/HDMI-VGA-HD15-Male-Cable/dp/B003OE7UES

Doesn't actually work. Just read the reviews for yourself.

HDMI is a digital signal and vga is an analog signal. You would need a converter to convert between the two. A cable is not enough.

Okay thanks guys, I can't return it but it was only like $5, I'm more disappointed that I can't connect my computer (Doesn't have hdmi out) to my tv than that I need a never cable, should have been more careful when I bought it
