How to connect my GPU to power supply.

Hey guys, i currently have a Powercolor r9 290x pcs+ and i am trying to hook it up to a EVGA 850 g2 power supply, I have a 8 pin power cable that has VGA written on it and the connectors on the other side are a 6 pin with and extra 2pin connector and a separate 6pin would i connect both of these to the power supply or will i need an additional 6 pin connector from the power supply?

The GPU needs both and 8pin and 6pin to be powered.

When it is a full modular power supply then it should have a cable with 6+2 pins written on it should be PSU and GPU/VGA. You should connect the port on which is written PSU to the PSU and the VGA/GPU port to the GPU. If the GPU needs more power then you should take a look in your cables and find the one which is the same as the other one and simply connect it.
