Motherboard causing poor wireless network card performance?

Hi,

I was troubleshooting my housemates slow internet browsing and discovered poor speeds while using the wireless network card but normal performance while using ethernet.

I swapped out her network card for mine (which works as it should in my PC) but had the same problem, then put her card in my PC and had normal performance.

So it would appear the issue is not with the card but perhaps the motherboard?

Is there something else I have overlooked? The WiFi signal itself is strong, so I'm guessing it can't be interference?

Any insight appreciated, cheers.

Even with a strong wireless signal, RF interference can still cause performance issues. Interference can emanate from the PC itself, so it could be difficult to diagnose. You should try to separate any nearby electronic devices from the PC by as much distance as possible to help rule out problem equipment. Move the PC if possible to test. Another idea is to relocate the antenna a short distance by using an extension cable.

Also, have you checked for the latest drivers for the wireless network card? Have you tried a different slot on the motherboard?

Thanks BuddhaSkoota,

I will try to diagnose if there is RF interference.

As for the drivers they were up to date, and there are two slots on the MB, but one is taken up by the GPU, I could use that slot to test I guess.
