I have been having weird WiFi problems for the past couple of weeks on my Dell Inspiron N7110. I will run a continuous ping to my router and get ping times ranging from 50 to 300 MS. I also have periods where I lose 50% or more of the packets. It doesn't matter how close I am to the router. If I disable and reenable the wifi adapter, ping times will improve to less than 10ms for about 15 pings and then go back to the high times/lost packets. No of my other devices at home have this problem. I have phones and ipads and other laptops that stay connected just fine.
Recently, I discovered that when I enable Intel My Wifi Technology, the ping times drop to below 10ms and I lose no packets. I don't understand the problem. As far as I can tell, this utility is meant to allow other computers to connect to the internet via my computer.
Right now I have my laptop and router all set to connect via automatic settings, but I have also tried changing the band on which the router transmits. I don't know what else to do. Is it normal to have to enable My Wifi Technology utilty? If not, what can I do to fix this problem?
