Is a 500w EVGA PSU good enough for FX 6350 and a GTX 970

No, even though that's a great PSU. In truth, the PSU is actually 480 watts for one thing (500 just the labeling). If you were getting an Intel CPU I'd say you could get by fine, but AMD draws in much more power, so you will want 550-600W.

So technically it could work but is risky.
