Hey guys I purchased the Razer Tiamat 7.1 surround sound headphones awhile ago, and I'm thinking I am going to purchase a sound card so that my 7.1 mode sounds a lot better quality than it does with my onboard one (they sound like $20 headphones in 7.1 mode) which sound cards are directly compatible/recommended with this headset? I know nothing about sound cards, but I would like to keep my budget under $60 but if thats not realistic that's okay. I've seen some 7.1 surround sound cards for like $30 but do those really give good audio quality for tiamat headphones?
Thanks guys

my friend has them headphones and he hates them, he said they sound really tinny and cheap, he has a good motherboard too so thats not the problem, honestly mate, should have gone with astros or the astro mixamp and something like the siberia v2.

Not true, it's powered by USB but the sound is transmitted over 4 analogue jacks (front, centre/sub, side and rear).

If your mobo came with a sound software suite it may be possible to improve the sound somewhat if you have a graphic equalizer function and some form of Bass enhancement / redirection, that's what I am making do with at present. A sound card would indeed be better though. Check the Creative and Asus ranges. You should be able to find something decent for your budget.

What about something like a Msi z97 Gaming 5 motherboard?

they are tinny because the razer tiamat needs a fully dedicated sound card or DAC for the bass to function properly. the impedence of the subwoofer is 16 ohms which differs from the usual 32 so more equiptment is needed.
