If I get a new motherboard do I have to get windows 7 to install?

Solution

No, you cannot do that. The Windows 7 OEM license is locked to the first motherboard it is installed on and cannot be moved to another. If you replace the motherboard it must be with the same make/model. You can try calling Microsoft and plead your case but understand that they are under no obligation to allow you to activate your existing OEM copy on another system.

Most likely, yes I"m afraid. The new motherboard will likely have a different archtechure, chipset, and need to be reinstalled to align the hardware in device manager properly. You 'may' get lucky, and be able to boot into safe mode, in which case you should be ok for fixing drivers.

No I just got a new one so I changed them out today and it wouldn't boot just keep saying repair windows, so I just switched back to my old one for now until I can figure something out

Your OS will need to be reinstalled on your hard drive, it is attempting to repair drivers for hardware that no longer exists

The OS is stored on your hard drive, not the motherboard, if this was a pre-built that you are upgrading, the old license for Windows will no longer be valid and likely any restore disks will not have the correct hardware resources
