I just got an Asus X551 laptop today. I hate the windows 8.1 and wanted to install windows 7 ultimate. I can't get 8 removed. 7 won't overwrite and load up. Says " Windows setup experienced an unexpected error. To install windows restart the installation." A restart has the same outcome everytime. I have tried using several discs i have and always the same. I bought this for my woman for Christmas. I know she can't deal with win 8. I need to get 7 on there. Someone please help me out.

Solution
ealier versions of win 7 use mbr, newer versions use gpd like win 8 does.
u might need an updated version of win 7 to get it to even attempt to install.

1. Are you booting from the install media, or trying to start this when Windows 8 is actually running?

2. Windows 8.1 can be made to look very much like 7. Primarily, boot directly to the Desktop. Little need to see the Metro interface.

You have to boot from the install media. Either DVD or USB.
What you're trying to do is ask the currently running OS to kill itself. It won't do that.

Boot from your install media.

It seems there are a number of other people having the same issue I'm faced with. It seems this computer will not handle windows 7. I'm going to make it simple and sell it today and buy a different model. Problem solved.
