I just hooked up my first SSD, a 250gb Samsung 840 EVO and installed the included data migration software. I have a nearly full 1TB HDD with my OS and all my other storage it and just want to transfer my OS and a few other programs to the SSD but since it can't copy 1TB of stuff to a 250gb SSD it asks me to exclude files. The problem I have is out of nearly 1TB I can only exclude about 100gb of files so it won't let me go any farther. Am I doing this wrong or is there another program/way of doing this?

Solution
The data stays on your HDD. I'd reinstall windows and any software and just leave the HDD alone, keeping what data you need that doesn't fit on the ssd on that.
IMO cloning the drive is a bad solution.

So just use my same copy of windows on the SSD then? Won't it cause some kind of problem having windows on both drives running at the same time or no?

Windows only runs from the drive the BIOS attempts to boot from, windows will be "unaware" that there is a second copy, so there isn't an issue with that. When the SDD is up and running just delete windows from the HDD to free up space.

OK thanks man. So once Windows loads up from the SSD will all my stuff on the HDD load after that like my startup programs and icons or do I need to set it up again off the HDD
