I have one hdmi monitor and one monitor that is using an adapter on dvi to convert it to vga.
I am looking to add another vga monitor is this possible.

Thank you.

ps it has a display port left and, a (sorry because I'm a noob) a black dvi?

Solution
the ports are 2 dvi 1 hdmi and 1 display port?? hmm i think you need an active display port for 3 monitors to work. cuz i tried doing that on a r9 270x using dvi, hdmi, and mini displayport (not active) only two monitors would be active. so i bought an active display port adapter for the 3rd monitor and it worked.. :D

FYI this setup is for AMD eyefinity.. if you just want extended mode you don't need an active adapter
If you just want three separate monitors (not creating a single "virtual" screen for gaming) then your best bet is to use PCPARTPICKER and find another card like an passive (no fan) Asus HD6450 or similar.

Then attach the monitor to this second card.

Most video cards only have one VGA output which includes the DVI->VGA method via the passive adapter.

(FYI the DVI->VGA method is using a DVI-I output which has BOTH the pins for digital and VGA present. The adapter is simply connecting to the VGA pins and doesn't actually convert anything)

i dont know about that as the other guy is suggesting extended graphics setup and not amd eyefinity.

im more inlcined to go with the vga-display port cuz i think it has its own clock to convert vga to digital data.

At the minute I am using 2 monitors they are on the same computer but separate. Is this eyefinity or not. Do I get that adapter?

nope i think that is extended graphics because you have to activate eyefinity on the amd control panel, well if you are not using eyefinity just plug the 3rd monitor on your motherboard/cpu built in gpu you wont need any adaptor on that just download the driver for your integrated. by the way what is your procesor so we would knw if it has integrated graphics. :D

oh, a 7870 will only display 2 monitor without an active display port because it only has 2 clocks integrated in the gpu so an outside clock (active adapter) is needed for the 3rd monitor to display. i suggest get the vga-diplayport because those adaptors has its own clock to convert analog signal to digital signal.

Would the one I showed earlier work?
