OK so my dilema is this: i have $450 in christmas money. i do not know if i should buy a new graphics card, i was looking at the geforce GTX 970 superclocked, but i dont know if my processor will get choked down. every time i upgrade my GPU, it seems like i dont see a difference in frame rates. i was thinking about getting a intel core i7-5820k if i have to get a new processor. my screen resolution is 1920x1080 and i have a 27 inch monitor. Thanks! AMD FX-6300, sapphire radeon hd 7970 oc 3gb 8gb 1600MHz ram, etc.

I would be getting a new motherboard and intel i5 of some sort. Sell your amd cpu and motherboard and see what you have left over. You might then be able to sell your 7970 and have enough left over for an r9 290 or gtx970. What region do you live in/whats your prefered parts supplier?

Doesn't tell us much - case, ssd, hdd, gpu, psu

Yes - a FX6300 will struggle keeping up with a gtx 970. In BF4 it will strangle your GPU.

Any modern i5 or i7 would be better. You don't have to buy a high end i7 (5820). But you'll need a mobo to suit. And for i7 5820, 5930 or 5960 you'd need expensive ddr4 ram
Most popular today is the i5 4690k ($220) on a Z97 mobo ($150) with a Coolermaster Hyper 212 evo ($30) CPU cooler. If we knew more about your ram, you could probably use it.

A GPU needs to fit in your case and be reliably powered by your power supply. Its a bit dumb getting a $350 GPU if the CPU only lets it run like a $200 graphics card.

So my suggestion is to get the i5 etc as above or just get say a gtx760 or r9 280x.

he already has a 7970 aka 280x
