Can I use my new Samsung 840EVO 120GB SSD as a boot drive only for a clean install of Windows 8.1, and if so how?
Thanks

Solution
You can use it fine disconnect all other drives an connect the SSD to the motherboard and run windows CD to install windows after your done reconnect previous drives and in bios make sure SSD is 1st boot device.

Yes. If you are upgrading from an old hdd or ssd i believe samsung has the magic transfer thing that allows you to move even the system OS to the new ssd effortlessly. Just install the driver and software and you'll see this. If its a new OS for you, then do as normal os install. Place your new ssd on your hardware and boot from cd or usb. If you want to install games on your Ssd, 120 might be small though. Games today are so huge. :S

Thank you so much. Your knowledge will only help me in the future. I do have HDDs 3.5TB's WD Black internal and 4 TB's WD external.

Thanks I think I got it. I now know that the 120GB SSD is enough to cover Windows 8.1 as a new clean boot drive only. I would still like to get an idea of how much space might still be available.
