i just got my computer back from a repair shop because of this problem although a bit better i am still getting fps problems. using mantle which is better than dx11 i will be playing at around 60fps occasionally dropping to high 40s when the game will drop to low 30s the into the 10s occasionally giving a very jumpy experience.
i have a
gigabyte windforce oc r9 280x
fx 6300
8gb ram
asrock 970 pro 3 mobo

should i take my pc back or is there anything else i can do?
also they freshly installed windows so i have deleted the old game installs and got new ones and have got the latest gpu drivrs.

You don't say what settings you are using. But with the fx6300 you can't expect any more than medium quality.
Its a tier 4 cpu per http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html

BF4 is a CPU intensive game. As you play you slowly work your way into more and more graphical and cpu demanding scenarios. This is where your fps drop - hectic explosions and lots of tanks and soldiers to keep track of.

I would change from a fx6300 to fx 8320 and see if that makes a reasonable difference.

This is not correct at all, I had an fx-6300 and my frames didn't drop like this with a gtx 660,well they did but the problem was windows 7, as soon as I upgraded to windows 8.1 the problem disappeared, are you running windows 7 ?. The fx-6300 is fine for bf4, considering the game is more optimised for amd....... Your graphics card should handle ultra on bf4 with minor drops on maps like Shanghai.

you shouldnt be using mantle with a fx 6300 - swap back to directx11 - the big fps drops are prevalent with using mantle in bf4 with the fx chips.
& look at running the game at high settings rather than ultra - it barely looks any different & will give you a solid vysnced 60fps.

I use windows 7 with no such problems - these fps drops could be down to a multitude of things - mantle definitely has bigger frame drops than dx11 though - its a fact.
these drops could be down to hard drive access/page file usage buffering etc.

high 40's drops at ultra is acceptable - down to the 30's & 10's definitely is not & personally I think it has nothing to do with running on windows 7 or there would be widespread complaints everywhere

I had windows 7, I got frame spikes to the point where the game would crash, I upgraded to windows 8.1 it was fixed, then a few weeks ago I installed win 7 on my new ssd and thought il see what bf4 is like and guess what? Frame spikes and crashes, so I removed win 7 and put windows 8.1 on and it was fine again. Even look at this post :). http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/forum/threadview/2955065226565472069/

the page file is a bufffer stored on your hard drive for when physical ram use gets to 75%
If your os & games are stored on pne physical hard drive the accessing of this page file can cause stutters & fps drops ingame.
ways round this are more ram (expensive & not really necessary as 8gb is enough),moving the page file to a different drive,or settings a minimum/maximum size page file yourself to minimise usage when it isnt really required.

the last option is the best imo if yo only have 1 physical hard drive.

I'm not gonna bother helping because this stuff isn't going to work, I'm telling you -_- , one simple thing to do and that's upgrade to windows 8 or 8.1 and it's problem solved. Don't waste your time on this crap, I seen someone post the same crap on the ea forum and it didn't work.

but people on 8.1 still complain of the same problem - it seems to be system dependant rather than os dependant.
there are plenty of people on windows 7 with good performance & plenty of people on windows 8.1 the same.
There are also people on both 7 & 8.1 with exactly the same drops & spikes with no good reason why.
A completely new os (an expensive option aswell) is overbaord for problems in one game with no absolute guarantee it will make any difference.

i will upgrade to win 8 if this doesn't work but i really don't want to spend that money without trying other ways
