Bitfenix Neos Case Modding Question

When I first got my PC I never though I was going to go full out with water cooling and all but now I am and have been trying to expand, but without any more room. There is only 3 available fans and one is being used by a radiator and the 2 at the front are pushing air out of the case. I would like to switch the 2 front fans to intakes and add a new fan on the top. Which means drilling. Does the top of a bitfenix neos come off, by any means necessary or do I have to take everything out?

Also, for what it's worth how strongly do you guys recommend I just scrap the neos for a Corsair Graphite series 780T?

Solution
No worries man, all I'd do from there is put a fan grill over it and it'll look pretty shiny :) glad to help and give me a shout for your next project :)

My only problem with that is there is a metal strap under the I/O controller that will be a masiive pain. I like the 4mm drill bit and screws idea though. What should I be taking out of my case if anything?

Ok, so after lots of drilling and lots of dust that I hopefully vacuumed up. I removed all 12 or so of the rivets and it still won't pop. I drilled out the inside of the rivets.

No clue what you mean. My rad is currently on the top back fan panel.

The roof will pop off if youve drilled all the rivets and pushed them out, it may take a bit of a smack to free it as tabs are folded to hold it in place but it will come off once you pop it, I did four fans roundabout where you plan to put yours

Mark your fanholes on a piece of wood that fits inside the roofpanel
sort=3&o=15http://s136.photobucket.com/user/Motopsychojdn/media/pc%20of%20doom%20build/fanonjig.jpg.html?sort=3&o=13
Then use the wood to drill the holes for mounting the fanhttp://s136.photobucket.com/user/Motopsychojdn/media/pc%20of%20doom%20build/jiginroof.jpg.html?sort=3&o=15
Drill in side the circumference of the fanholes or cut out your circle to allow air to flow out of the case, this is how mine turned outhttp://s136.photobucket.com/user/Motopsychojdn/media/pc%20of%20doom%20build/26042010113.jpg.html?sort=3&o=5
take your time and it'll look and work fine :)

Thanks a lot, but I'm not sure what to drill, like in the previous photo I showed there was 2 parts to the rivets, a smaller white part within a bigger black part. I drilled the white part out but it seems as solid as ever.

P.S. yours turned out great. I love that 4 fan square but since I have smaller crappy case I am going to go for a single 140mm and maybe try to push my luck on dual 140 or even if it doesnt look awful a 140 and 120.

You drilled the centre of the rivet out but you still need to push the rest of the rivet through, do you have a slightly larger drill bit to take more of it out and make it easier to push it through?
Mine was one of my first mods and I was pleased with how it went so thank you for the compliment :)
you may also find it easier if you pop the front panel off too

Yes I think I do so how much more do you think I need to take out, all of it or just most?

Thanks you have been such a help. I also decided to add a side panel fan because, well because why not. I'll make sure to post a photo of the end result!

So, after 2 long days of modding, failures, mess ups, and sucesses, here is my progress.....

I decided to take the top off, that wasn't too hard.

This is my computer now:
qQXe3nF.jpg

13 rivets in total, some hidden. I took off the side panel, that is simple.
I go downstairs to my workstation, completely mess up the top, some big holes, some small. But lot's of scratches.
XdgEiDp.jpg

I say screw it and cut the entire hole out. After an hour of sanding later it is somewhat safe but may still cut you, so I order these : http://mnpctech.com/case-mods-gaming-pc-liquid-modding-custom-computer-mnpctech-overclock-cooling-fan-grills/u-channel-pc-computer-window-rubber-trim-molding-cable-management/24-x-12-clear-and-colored-acrylic-window-sheets-for-computer-case-windows-and-mods-clone.html

These will come later.

I cut my losses on the top and work on the side, I drill lots of holes, and it isn't too bad.

This is the other side (it looks better in person ):

It still needs to be sanded better and maybe spray painted.

I am now in the process of looking for flathead screws that will work on the case, waiting for the rubber mold, and getting spray paint to fully go over the top because I was careless and didn't fully put tape over everything but the hole.

I will update when I resume progress. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you and yours man and welcome to the world of modding :)
you've just learned a basic principle of working with thin materials, they deform easily under stress so its vital that you at least support then underneath, at best sandwich them between two sheets of wood to prevent malformations, and larger drills make a mess far quicker which is why I suggested a 4Mm bit
but not to worry, its a lesson learned and next time you do something like this it'll look ten times neater because of the experience :) that channelling is nice stuff though and handy when you start cutting smaller holes in mobo trays etc later one

And it's done! After such a long process and using a bareboned PC for a while, I can say im happy!

Whole the top was off I decided to cable manage so for 2 hours I figured out different ways to route things and now it does not look awful, and in fact looks clean with no cables out of place. I didnt get a photo but whatever.
The rubber molding came in today and I went straight to work, measuring and cutting it to fit. Screwed in the fan, tied up some cables, and put a sticker on it.
dKe8SpB.jpg

As you can see it isnt the best, nor the worst but I can call it my own.
So I was getting temps around 10 degrees cooler than before so i decide to kick it up a notch. My GTX 760 is now running at 110% power limit, 1241 MHz core clock, and 3105 MHz boost clock. While hitting temps of up to 79 degrees Celsius.

Thankyou so much for all of your help throughout this whole process moto!

But.......

Well, at least if I or anyone I know needs an 80mm grill I got it.
