I am running my Lenovo Think Pad off of my Samsung Galaxy S5 to connect to the internet due to there being no cable access where I have moved into. That works well but I have a Netgear6300 router and a Vista hard wire machine that I am trying to get online through the S5. Can that be done? The Vista machine does not have wireless, only Cat5/6 for internet connectivity,

There is always a way! But well... It's not really advisable. It's not a great idea to run your internet off your phone even for a short while, and it's not a good idea to bring a router into the equation either.

Your best bet, assuming that this is a stop gap measure, is to use a USB cable to tether your phone to your PC. This will mean that you won't be running the wifi hotspot all the time which is really demanding on the battery life of your phone even if you leave it plugged in. It's fine to do for a few hours here and there, it's not good to do for a long time.

As for better options - That depends on what you mean by no cable access. Do you mean that there is no cable internet? Or do you mean that there are literally no cables...

If the former, then look into ADSL. If you have phone service and live in pretty much any sized town you should be able to get DSL. Maybe not the highest speeds in the world, but even slow hardline internet beats mobile every day, on price if nothing else.

If the latter, then your options are rather more limited but you aren't without options. At the absolutely worst you can get 3g/4g usb modem stick which can be plugged into whichever machine you need it on, and even potentially connected into a router if you absolutely need access across multiple machines. You'll get a better deal on a USB stick than on phone data, and your network will likely hook you up with some amount off if you get an extra line on your account. You'll still be on metered data which SUCKS, but if that's the only option you have then it's better than nothing. If that's the way you have to go, then you need to be really careful about using BitTorrent etc, and lay off streaming video too - Those are things that will eat your data without your noticing and can run you hundreds of dollars over your cap in an evening.
