I cant provide a ton of info because im just trying to help out a friend. He got a new power supply so he could get a better graphics card. Right now he has an on board GPU. I'm not sure of either of the brands but i do know the new one is 550w. When he installed it and started it up he got a black screen. So he removed it and put the old one back in and it did the same thing. I wont be able to see him for a day or two but he swears he plugged everything in correctly. Is there any explanation besides not hooking it up right. Any help would be greatly appreciated if not I'll take a look at it on Christmas.

Solution
There could be several things wrong:

1. GPU isn't seated properly
2. GPU power cables aren't connected
3. Installation of either GPU or PSU caused a short
4. Static electricity
5. CPU power cable (4/8-pin connector) isn't connected properly or at all
6. GPU is defective
7. both PSUs aren't powerful enough to handle the GPU

At this point, there is little you can do. Your friend might be better off if you click on the link in my signature, and then email the url to your friend, that he or she may go through our troubleshooting guide.
