I have heard this is a common problem, but there really doesn't seem to be a real fix. Maybe someone here knows. My computer CD/DVD drive does not read anything. It opens and closes, but does not load any disks. When I open "Computer", there is no drive for it. All that shows is my two hard-drives and an external hard drive, but no disk drive. How do I fix this? I'm desperate.

If you open the computer, there should be two cables connected to the dvd drive, a small one going to the motherboard, and a bigger one going to the powersupply, are these both connected? The bigger one should be as it "functions" but if your computer isn't reading anything the smaller one might not be.

Was it always broken, did it just get broken?

Did you maybe get a virus? use this: https://www.malwarebytes.org/
