I have been running my Phenom ii X4 955 BE since late 2010 now.
It has held out well for most games until now, but with upcoming games like Tom Clancy's The Division im going to build a new rig.

I have selected the following CPU's as possible upgrades.

i5-4460
FX-8320

CPU's will have MX-4 paste and Gelid Tranquillo Rev.2
Graphics card will be MSI R9 270 Gaming 2G

Anyone know a good upgrade? other CPU's are welcome, budget is around 150 Euro's for the CPU with Tranquillo Rev.2.
i5-4460 will use stock cooler

Games im going to play using this rig:
Tom Clancy's The Division
Dying Light

Im not a fan of FPShooters like CoD or BF, but shouldn't be excluded.
also note that i am NOT overclocking

UPDATE:
removed some cpu's which are definitely out of the picture.

If an i3 performed the same as the i5, why would the i5 exist?
Dont trust youtube for information and benchmarks. Moving on,

I would skip the FX lineup all together, as well as any other AMD processor for that matter.
I would highly recommend trying to get the 4460/4590/4690k if you could.

sounds like Intel-Fanboy,
although you run Phenom ii X4 965BE ?
might explain why i should not pick a AMD cpu?

If you have money, Intel performance is better hands down - no-one questions that. However from a budget perspective, that is where Amd has a good grasp.

You said that your budget is 150 Euro, does this include motherboard?

If it doesn't get an i5 - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54440

If you do need a motherboard in that budget, i would skip the i3 altogether, go for a pentium. These are pretty much i3's without hyperthreading, which is irrelevant in gaming, and are almost half the price.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor (£49.14 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£64.99 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £114.13
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Budget is around 150 Euro for CPU and Cpu cooler if needed.

I can either get an i5 which are 160 Euros and up,
or an FX 8320 including Tranquillo Rev.2 for 160

Problem is that everything here in Holland is more expensive then elsewhere, and i can't order from amazon cos i have no credit card. Do have paypal though.

update:
With the 8 cores from FX, shouldnt it be able to handle future games better, due to the games being bigger and using multicores?

I love my phenom II, thats why I still have it. I wish AMD had a bit more to offer for gaming, but intels single threaded performance just cant be matched.
AMD does make ground in rendering and multithreaded tasks and budget builds, but intel is ahead in gaming.

If you can spare the extra for the i5, it would be well worth it. If you are stuck on a budget the 8320 will hold you over for now.

i had the amd athlon II x4 970 BE and upgreaded to an I7 4790k about a month ago. i can honestly say that i wouldnt go back to amd, but if budget is an issue, then AMD may be the way to go for you.
facts are that Intel generally outperforms AMD, but on the other hand, the cost is drastically different.

it comes down to the i5-4460 and fx-8320 now.

fx-8320 will be paired with tranquillo rev.2
i5-4460 will run stock cooler due budget.

both will have mx-4 paste, and not overclocking any.

question now is;
which is better for future games, as Tom Clancy's The Division will be making use of 8 cores?
which runs cooler / quieter?

most games wouldnt be able to utilize all 8 cores, as far as i am aware. so, the amount of cores shouldnt matter. i havent read to much about the division, so i cannot say for sure on that one.

one thing that got me away from AMD was the reviews about the heat being produced. not sure first hand, how the heat goes, but the i5 (stock) SHOULD run cooler. that is just my guess without using google to look it up on benchmarks

just make a some buying list, go windows shopping for price of each shop..

Basically u need to know the budget for i5 + decent mobo
(no ways u going pair i5 with crappy mobo, it's a waste of money)
or for one of FX 8320..

both ways has it's own merit..
don't turn this to Intel vs AMD war..

Intel unmatched in core single process capabilities, memory, and power..
(this lead to better at gaming) period.
AMD better at cost, multi threaded,..
(also better with apps that can utilize it) period.
