My SSD is divided on two partitions. How to fix?

Hello!

Yesterday I just received a new laptop that comes with a 256 GB SSD.
When I opened My computer I saw that my C: partition has 150 gb of that SSD and the other partition (D: ) has the rest of the SSD + 700 GB from the HDD.

What I want, is to ''place'' the SSD fully on C:.

Right now I'm trying to reinstall my Windows 8.1. And I'm stuck at the point of ''Where do you want to install Windows". Can I reallocate the space?

Solution

I agree, add a 250GB SSD. If you don't have budget for it look for a 60GB SSD, that's ample for Windows and what I used to run windows 8.1 off. I had room from most of my software on it, but you need to be careful, because you fill it up real quick.

That's another thing. How do I know which one is the SSD and which one is HDD? It doesn't seem to be written anywhere

when you install windows disconnect your HDD ( just pull out a cable ).
Then when you install you are sure everything is on the SSD
when you finish just connect your HDD again and TADAAAA, all is well in the world once more

Yes, it's exactly what I just did. But surprise. The only remaining partition is the one with 22.4 GB space...
That means I have only 22.4 GB of ssd? is that possible?

no, that's not possible.
You tried formattting your ssd i assume ...

you can try a secure erase and format after that.
Maybe your ssd is read only somehow,

Ok, it's my bad. Apparently I've mistaken my laptop with another one from the same series.
I have found my model and it's indeed with only 22 GB of SSD. So I guess everything it's ok now

add a few updates to that in the next year and you might be in trouble.
You could always buy a 250GB SSD for your laptop, i've done that in the past.
Just make sure your pc is prepped for that and if your laptop is worth it :)
