I recently upgraded from a GTX 260 to a 970 and for some reason it seems to reboot when gaming, and sometimes even when just browsing the net. It's not a overheating thing as the temps are the same as before and the 970 requires the same amount of power as the 260 did so it shouldn't be a PSU problem either? The PSU is about 4 years old now but it was a good one at the time, maybe its just long in the tooth? I sadly don't have another PSU to test it with. Thanks

Specs are
i5 3570k
8gb ddr3 ram
GTX 970
Windows 7 64bit

How silly of me to forget, It's a Toughpower Thermaltake 600w. And I have not reset the bios, would this help?

It has one 8 pin and one 6 pin and came with a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter which I am currently using.

Depending on the model, some GTX 970 need 8 and 6 pin connectors.

nVidia recommends minimum 550w PSU for the 970. Many aftermarket 970's are factory overclocked because maxwell is an overclocking beast. So chances are you really need 600w or better.

Also, there is a known undervolting issue in the midrange on some factory OCd cards that causes driver instability. When it's not running at high boost there can be periodic TDRs. The best way to fix this is for the OEMs to release updated BIOS with and adjusted voltage tables. But this takes time and testing to be safe. After all, they have warranry concerns.

I may win idiot of the year. As the previous card needed two 6 pin adapters I had an 8 to 6 pin adapter installed, and as it was such a long time ago and me not looking properly I installed the 6 to 8 pin on the 6 and the 8 to 6 on the 6, so I had two adapters going for no reason, i just took them both out and ran the game for 20 minutes and didn't get a reboot, I'll play some more just to be sure but thank you all for the help and sorry for wasting your time.
