So I have just put together an Intel i5 4670k, hyper 212 Eco cpu cooler, evga gtx 970, g.skill ripjaws 2x4gb ram, corsair bs 600W psu, Samsung 250gb ssd, all plugged into an MSI Z87-G43 motherboard. When i boot the PC, all the fans spin up but there is no signal detected on the monitor. I have tried both modules of RAM in each socket serperately, and still nothing! I'm really unsure on what to do next or what I even can do!

It would be one thing if you were cloning a HDD to SSD that was already running your computer.

Your cloning an OS for someone else's computer and expecting it to boot right up on your computer, its not going to happen the drivers are all wrong from his build to yours.

Your next issue is if you do get it to work you will both be running off the same windows key with different build and Microsoft will frown on this, most likely banning the key and making both build not genuine causing both of you to buy new copies of windows.

If the computers appears to be posting but no signal to your monitor then start with your connections to your monitor. Also check and make sure both the power connections to the video card are securely connected and that the card is seated properly in the pci slot. If that does not work you might try a different card if you happen to have one around.

The motherboard arrived today so it's as up to date as can be, as for the gpu, I have checked and double checked everything is connected securely, the fans on the gpu idle after a minute or so but I'm sure that's because of the zero core technology that comes with it where the fans don't fully operate until it reaches 60c. I have tried the connection with the onboard gpu aswell and no success

12V to CPU?
Power to GPU?
GPU properly seated?
CPU properly seated?
RAM properly seated and in the right banks? Double and triple check the last bit
Connection to monitor in order?
Have you tried manually switching input mode on monitor?
Do you get any sort of monitor output? Are you able to enter bios?
Have you tried removing most all components (ram, GPU) and trying booting?

I seem to have fixed the problem, I had one Molex connector not fully connected to the adapter and wasn't displaying anything because of it. However, I now have another issue. I cloned my friends new hdd with windows 8 installed to my ssd and it's giving me an error to do with the installation of windows. I know you can fully clone everything and just boot straight up into the new drive as I've done it before for a friend, however I don't remember the software I used and can't find it on my old PC, can any of you guys recommend some free software that will do it? I really appreciate all of you taking time out of your day to help me with my problems, thank you very much!

you cant clone a install off someone else's computer, the drivers will all be wrong and windows wont boot up, unless you both have the same exact build.

The window key is also license to his computer and you have a good chance of getting it banned by Microsoft if you run both computer off one key.

Precisely!

However! Just to add a fun anecdote:
I bought a new SSD for my desktop, took the old one and put it in my Macbook. I turned the laptop on expecting a boot failure and option to install a OSX but no, Windows 8.1 booted, installed drivers for a few minutes and then ran like nothing had changed. That surprised me a lot.
