well it kind of depends what you want it for id say (as to what benefit you will feel). if you're only playing at 1080p / 60fps / 60Hz etc I doubt you'd feel any great benefit - my 770 4GB cuts through most titles at 1080p (some titles I might not use the max AA / HBAO+ - MetroLastLight, Watchdogs)
dont get me wrong the 970 performance is quite a bit superior, and even at 1080p some titles will make use of the increased VRAM (2GB < 4GB) for example my heavily modded Skyrim will use 2.5GB+ VRAM, BF4 similar I think, more titles will start to use in excess of 2GB at 1080p as time goes by

the comparison is slightly tilted in the 770 favour as it wouldnt let me choose a good factory overclocked 970 for the comparision (so the 970 would be better than the comparision suggests)
edit - heres a better apples to apples comparision with similar GPU clocks

If the money isnt a problem then go for it - in my opinion the 970 is best bang for buck for watt on the market at moment (how much would good qual ebay GTX 780ti 3GB SLI cost?? just a thought), low power usage would also be a plus with the 970
if you're currently gaming (or whatever) at 1080p and titles are working fine (you're gaming experience is good) why not consider skipping a generation
just my 2 penneth - if money was no object for me i would likely buy the baragin 970 now and consider SLI a year down the line. i havnt SLI since GTX 460 1GB - god that scaled so great, like +90% in a lot of titles i was playing back then
