AMD FX 8350 vs. 8370. Who is the OCing champ?

Basically, I want to know which chip is most likely to OC to 5.0ghz.
I know they both are capable to, but 8370 is a up-binned 8350 cause it had a higher stable clock speed. I just don't want to have to take my chances in the Sili-Lottery with 8350... or worse...*Cough* *8320* *Cough*.

Also, a few recommended liquid coolers for around 100-150$ to keep a 5.0ghz beast cool wouldn't hurt either.

PC Specs:
CPU: You decide.
RAM: RipJaws Hyper X 8gbs (4 x 2)
Mobo: 970A-UD3P
GPU: GTX 750 Ti
PSU: Rosewill Green Series RG630-S12 630W Continuous @40°C,80 PLUS BRONZE Certified

Either should be able to hit 5.0 Ghz. The FX series has been out long enough that the chips are all essentially the same. That said, the 8370 will likely get you to 5.0 at a lower voltage and thus, lower temps.

As for cooling, I've had my 8350 @ 5.1 Ghz @ 1.48v for the last few years using an H100i with Noctua fans, temps have been great.

I think your limiting factor is more than likely going to be that 970A motherboard. I have one of those on a secondary system and I haven't been all that impressed with it's OC abilities. I have one with an FX6350 that is running stable at 4.8 Ghz @ 1.5v with an H100. That same CPU on my Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 was able to hit 5.2 @ 1.5v. This also isn't limited to this particular 970A. I have had several (5+) and they all OC poorly compared to even the lowest performing Asus M5A97 R2.0 I've had.

You say that the board is not worthy of OCing. Why not? I thought all you needed was 8+2 connecter for good overclocking potential. (I'm just saying this cause I already paid 110$ for the thing off of Newegg and I haven't even used it.)

Yea...that... I have no idea what that is other than I plug a cord from my PSU into it. I mean, motherboard plugs are pretty self-explanatory... But is the board capable of atleast 4.5GHz speed?

8+2 refers to the VRM power regulating capability of the MB for its CPU/RAM sub-system. Generally, meaning 8 phases for the CPU and 2 phases for the memory.

The 8 pin cable you are talking about is what feeds that portion of the board.

Yes, your board should do that with ease if you have good luck with the silicone lottery.

That brings me back to my title, How do I avoid the lottery? I am extremely unlucky...Challenge me to R-P-S...

Sorry, I have been away for a while.

The Gigabyte 970's are fine boards and overclock. Just don't expect extreme overclocks with those boards. In my experience, the Gigabyte 970's require a good bit more voltage than their Asus counterparts. So generally the Asus boards have more headroom for higher overclocks. Again, that is just my experience with several of both, the Asus boards could always reach a bit farther at the same voltage.
