Graphics Card doesn't work properly with 20" monitor

I recently installed an EVGA 8400 graphics card in my computer, which has an HP 20" monitor attached. The monitor sends a message saying that it cannot handle the video card. What is the minimum size monitor that will handle this video card, or what adjustment must I make to use the card?

It's a standard VGA cable that came with the monitor.

Are you able to try any other connectors from the monitor to the graphics card? I.e. DVI?

Have you tried using the motherboard connectors with your screen? Does it work fine or get the same result?

I would suggest installing the latest graphics card drivers (if not already done so)

I installed DVI cables yesterday. Then I turned off the computer & disconnected it for several hours. When I turned it on, I found the following:
1. the monitor will not work without a VGA cable; 2. that the computer does not recognize the new card, but rather tries to use the integrated circuitry (NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE), even though the new card is properly placed in the machine (it snapped into place) 3. there is nothing on the motherboard (HP Nettle 2-6L8E, a supposedly standard item) or the new card to connect a wire to; 4. the new card has never gone through autorun to install the new card, so it will not download any drivers; 5. the new card has never appeared in the device manager, only the old circuitry; 6. The images on the screen grow larger upon disabling the old circuitry, but when I initiate programs, the monitor states that it cannot handle them & gives me a black screen, at which time I hold down the on/off switch for 3 seconds in order to escape. I hope this information helps; I can't think of anything else at the moment.
