Upgraded CPU Possibly Bottlenecking My GPU?

Greetings everyone,

I am considering purchasing a used Intel Core i7-2600 for around $214.00. Currently, I own a Intel Pentium G680, so I'm looking for an upgrade. My motherboard is ASRock H77 pro4/MVP and my GPU is AMD Radeon HD 7800 series. Would my GPU bottleneck the new CPU? Also, is it smart to purchase a used CPU (that hasn't been overclocked) as opposed to a more expensive new one?

These are the other options I'm considering for the CPU: i5-3570, i5-3470.

Seriously.... no it wouldn't bottleneck it. As a rule of thumb to compare the a CPU's ability to maintain a GPU, if the clock is higher than it's better so it would be better than your current CPU anyway. Beyond that, a i7-2600 doesn't really bottleneck anything until you start running some kind of crazy dual/tri GPU setup.

Do you trust the seller? If the cpu has been lightly used with no overclocking, then that is a good price for a i7-2600. I still have my i7-2600 and it has treated me well over the last 4+ years.

Personally I bought mine new at the time, but I'm a old fool that likes to blow my money just for the conversation. I've never owned an i5 so I have no comment there.

What are you using this build for?
