Can I use SLI if I am running my graphics cards on separate power supplies?

I am attempting to use two identical 520w power supplies to run my gaming rig. I KNOW this is not recommended and I am only doing it temporarily while I wait for a PSU replacement. I am working on a portfolio for 3D animation which is due in 1 month so I absolutely need my computer running now. I have one PSU connected to my MOBO, CPU, fans and one graphics card and the second is shorted with a paper clip and connected to the other graphics card . When I had a single 1000w PSU I was running the graphics cards with SLI and I want to know if I can still do that even though each card is on a separate power supply.

Thanks, I went ahead and turned it on (first the psu running just the graphics card, then the one running the system+everything else) and everything seems to be working fine! Since I'm seeing both graphics cards in my hardware monitor and SLI doesn't affect the power I'm guessing it's okay.
