I recently bought a new AMD R9 200 series and a corsair HX1050 power supply with it. After installing these i have run into to problem of my system hanging or the screen blacking out.the problem was not there pre-installation of card and power supply. The problem is removed when the card is removed, although when placed in a different box the card works as it should. I'm afraid of there being a problem with the power because the fan never turns on even past the 20% load required. I don't know if this would be a problem with the power supply or the board not pulling the required power. At first I figured it was bad drivers, but i have done everything i could think of in terms of software. I'm currently running windows 7 ultimate.

Solution

It's basically the firmware of your AMD R9 graphics card, if that makes more sense ?
In any case your manufacturer's website should have a download section where you can see if your R9 has a new vbios/firmware.

Do a complete uninstall of the drivers using something like driver sweeper/driver fusion, then install the latest 14.12 omega drivers.
Not sure if amd has fixed it yet, but use the 'manual select' for downloading the proper drivers for windows 7.

- Make sure you have the latest BIOS for your mainboard
- See the manufacturer's site of your R9 card for a vBIOS update; some of those card had plenty of reliablity/performance problems before they were resolved with a new vBIOS

Good luck!
