I have a hot swappable system that allows me to use my Samsung SSD as a hard drive. I have wanted to get it working but I could never figure out how to use it. Checking the internet I have seen that my system has to be in AHCI mode, which it is. I have gone through a long search period and all I want to know is how to see my SSD Drive through my File Explorer so I can install games on it. I use Steam and I want to be able to install my games on the Samsung so that they run more efficiently. If anyone can help me solve my problem, any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I run a windows 8.1 system. My computer has an ASUS BIOS menu, so navigating it can be easier explained if I need to be in the BIOS to fix my problem.

Hey there, NotSimkins!

I'd suggest to check the cables again if everything is plugged properly and firmly.
You should first initialize the disk in Disk Management, then partition and format in order to use it.
How to initialize: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=tmipkm
How to partition/format: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=bXLz2u

Afterwards you should be able to see it in Windows as well. Then you can simply move your Steam Installation and games to it. Here's an article from Steam's KB that explains how to do that: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129

Keep me posted if you have more questions!
I hope this helps you! Happy Holidays! :)

I have the same issue. After initializing and formatting the drive it still doesn't show up in windows and it no longer shows up in BIOS. Any ideas?

Hey there, JackBauerDamnIt!

I'd suggest to reseat the cables to the SSD/HDD again. Is it going to be your system drive or is it a secondary drive?
If it's an SSD make sure that the SATA mode in BIOS is set to AHCI instead of IDE!
If you are performing a fresh install, I recommend to check this post on setting up SSD boot drive with secondary HDD optimization:

Keep me posted! Hope this helps you though! :)
