Hello recently i rebuilt my computer to find how old nic died on me . So we got a Realtek PCI GBE Family Controller for my 100 connection. Now i have been receiving lag when online . Looked at the driver to see the driver for my nic was from 2008. I downloaded the most recent driver for windows 7. I have tried installing it through the device manager. But even tho i know this driver is new. It keeps telling me the driver i am currently using is the most recent. But we know this is false.

Can someone possibly help me with how to install this new driver . Can i even drag drop/replace the old drivers on my pc from going to the realtek folder?

You are choosing the wrong option in the 'Update driver' dialog.

In the box which says "How do you want to search for driver software?", you must click on
"Browse my computer for driver software", then navigate to where you saved the INF file...

If that doesn't work (eg there is no INF file), the driver download should have it's own "setup.exe". In that case you double-click the setup file, you don't use Device Manager at all.
