Hello,
so basically I recently got an SSD, I searched around the internet viewed some videos and read the storage resources and the sticky posts. However it looks like I was unable to find the specific thing that would answer my question. I think it is a rather simple question, do I have to format my current HHD just to be able to install Windows on my SSD? (already got a bootable usb with windows 7) Currently I have my HHD with windows 7 ultimate and it the computer boots from that drive, however now that I have the SSD do I have to format my current Hard drive? I know that you can just set the computer to boot from the SSD but do I have to format my Hard drive in order for it to work? I am guessing that I don't have to but since I saw somewhere else that apparently you have to I am not sure anymore.

I apologize if It sounds like I repeated myself and if perhaps some grammatical things aren't correct as English is not my first language. Thanks in advance.

it recommended to do clean install of os into ssd..

by just connect/install ssd on the system leave all other disk/hdd disconnected..
(don't forget to set in bios to enable ACHI on port used by ssd)

after installing os and system running fine then u later connect the hdd..
move the data etc then just then format the old hdd to regain space.. (after the data is moved)

if u wanna retain old os and migrating it to new ssd, u can use clone software..
it's not recommended because prone with issue..

Perhaps I didn't understand correctly but I would like to ask if it is a necessity to format the old hard drive. I ask this because it has more data than what my current ssd can hold so I would be losing data if I move data from the hhd to the ssd. I am going to do a clean install on the SSD of windows 7 and enable ACHI on the port however can I leave the hard drive as it is and just boot from the SSD or do I have to format it in order to remove the OS. I'm more interested in keeping my data than the OS so from my understanding cloning the software isn't something I would like to do or need to.

not require to format the hdd..

but as far as i know there no way to regain space in hdd that occupied by old os
(some of them refuse to be deleted :D)... except by format..

If u willing to give up that space, then it will not pose a problem..
(to the new os)

Ohh thanks a ton, at the moment storage isn't a problem perhaps in the future I will transfer the things needed and format the old HDD in order to regain some space but at least for now I think I will keep it that way for the sake of convenience. Thanks again.
