Bios Updating Requirements

So I have a 4690 haswell refresh cpu and apparently since I want to use it with a intel h81 chipset motherboard I need to update the bios. Do I need to update the bios with the cpu installed, a different cpu or without a cpu at all? And if anyone knows sleeve bearing cpu coolers explained.

It depends on the motherboard and when it was manufactured. Usually, you need a supported CPU for updating BIOS. But, there are exceptions.

It doesn't have Flashback, but the BIOS chip is on socket and if needed, you can order one on ebay, flashed with the latest BIOS version and replace the board's one.
