Another Xbox 360 driver problem thread...

I recently swapped out my motherboard and cpu for better performance, and I reformatted in the process of reinstalling windows. My problem is that while trying to install various other software, I tried to install the drivers for my wired, madcatz 360 controller. The first time it's plugged in, it gives the usual "new device found" sound and says it's installing drivers for it. But it immediately fails and says drivers failed to install. A reference to it is then added to device manager saying it needs drivers and giving an error sound every time it's plugged into any usb slot.

I've tried using the official microsoft drivers (which are supposed to be the same ones used in the auto-detect driver install) and that makes no difference. The most annoying part about this is that before I reformatted, all I did was plug the controller in and everything worked perfectly. So, I'm not sure what would be the cause of this. I'm getting to the point where I'm about to use a third party program to run it (if that even works), but I hate that, as you usually have to manually setup keys for many games, even when it's already got a controller compatible control scheme.

Any help would be appreciated.
