Hello,
So recently I decided to give myself a treat around the holidays and replaced my old Phenom IIx4 965 BE with an FX 6300. I ran a background check and saw that my mobo(MSI 970a-G45) was compatible with FX proccesors so i installed it. I turned it on after installation and the computer failed to boot though power was going on. I checked and my keyboard and mouse weren't receiving power but my microphone was because it had a blue light indicating it had power. I checked if maybe it was the CPU causing it and reinstalled my old one but sadly it didn't work anyways. I tried clearing the CMOS as well so am I screwed? is my mobo broken?

Another thing about the BIOS update. Just because the box says "FX Processor supported," doesn't necessarily mean that the BIOS that is installed is correct. It is likely that your board supports the first generation of FX processors (i.e. Bulldozer/Zambezi); whereas the processor you referenced is the second generation of FX processor (i.e. Piledriver/Vishera).

Each new generation typically requires a BIOS update.

No because the motherboard's box says the bios is already updated to support AMD FX proccesors. I thought the same thing but my PC didn't work when i put in my old CPU so i assume thats not the problem

It seems that your problems began with the new CPU. I could be wrong, but you may be one of the few individuals that gets a bad proc out of the box. Even worse yet, it seems it may have taken your mobo with it.

If you have any friends with a spare board lying around, ask if you can give your old proc a try to see if it still works. I know its a long shot.
