Hi,

I just built my first computer and am having some problems. When i turn on the computer, i can see inside the case that all the lights on my parts and their fans are all on and working properly but my monitor says no signal. I have check the monitor, the connection to the monitor from the graphics card, i have pulled the whole computer apart and triple checked all the parts were in the right places and around the right way but i still dont get a signal. When it turns on there is nothing on the monitor, it doesnt even reach the BIOS. This is intended to run games like Arma 3 and Dayz so the parts are fairly decent.

Computer specs:
PSU: cougar 750 watt
Mother board: gigabyte GA 970A D3P
Optical drive: liteon 24X
Case: Bitfenix Neos with window
Graphics card: Nvidia Gigabyte GTX 760 2GB
CPU: AMD AM3 FX 6300 6 Core 3.5 GHz
RAM: (2x) Geil Dragon DDR3 4 GB 1600MHz
Storage: Seagate 3.5 inch 7200RPM
OS: windows 8.1 64 Bit OEM
I have also bought an extra LED case fan to help increase air flow

This is my first computer build so im still very new to this but i do have a good understanding of what is going on. I have spent hours going over every part and have not found a single problem. This is very frustrating considering it is Christmas Day my parents bought me the monitor and copy of windows as presents, so any help at all will be greatly appreciated!

The first thing that I notice is the motherboard and CPU compatibility. While they are technically compatible, the motherboard may not have the required BIOS necessary for the processor. The motherboard was released before the first generation of FX processors, while your processor is a second generation FX processor. My guess is that you'd need to update the BIOS.

i think he should check the gigabyte website to see if that motherboard is even capable to use that processor before attempting to update the bios. if it can use that processor..then update the bios, if it can't..u need a new motherboard that can use the processor..and use web store with a good rep and not ebay for a replacement motherboard.

thanks for the suggestions but im pretty sure that they are compatible with the stock software, i found another thread that can confirm this
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1988200/amd-6300-gigabyte-970a-d3p.html
i have noticed that my mother board is the D3P version however in the video that im basing this build on the guy used a DS3P, im not sure if there is much difference between these motherboards but the DS3P isnt an option for me because i cannot purchase it from the store where im getting my parts from

EDIT: i have checked the Gigabyte website as DougLYX suggested and it turns out that the AMD AM3+ FX 6300 6 Core processor is in fact compatible with the D3P version of this motherboard so compatibility issues between the two cannot be what is causing the issue.

I took the computer back to the shop i bought all the components from and got them to check it. It turns out the problem was a faulty motherboard. I got them to replace it and now the computer is working fine!

Thanks for all the help guys and i hope you continue to help others in the same way you helped me!
