nvidia dual monitor surround help

i have an nvidia gtx 760, i pluged a vga cable with a dvi adapter into my old monitor and my hdmi into my new one. I wish to configure surround but my problem is whenever i try to do it, my old monitor with the vga ends up being my primary and when i press enable surround my computer restarts. I have set windows 8 to have the hdmi monitor as my primary and nvidia control recognizes it as the primary before i try to configure surround. Can you please help me? i have never done dual monitor before. I have uninstalled my display driver for my old monitor then restarted with it unplugged then re-did the process and the same thing happened.

No, you can use surround with two monitors, other people including my cousin has done it and i have seen dual monitor surround gaming in person. Surround can be done with different display cables too. The monitors are also the same resolution. Anyone else please?

you can do surround monitors with nvidia control panel as you seem to have worked out, i do it often

although why do you want to have a primary monitor? when the displays are merged into one?
