Hello,

This is my first time building a new PC. Was very excited to build. Plugged in all the cables, graphics cards, CPU, etc ... but the PC just won't turn on. Here is my parts list. Perhaps someone can tell me what I am doing wrong - because I am at this time totally puzzled as to what I am doing wrong :) Thanks, guys.

What happens if instead of pressing the power button you short with a screwdriver the 2 pins on the board where the switch gets connected ?
I f still nothing, as a last try, I suggest testing outside the board, only CPU and stock Intel CPU fan installed.

Thank you for the quick answer. I have done all of the above. Everything that is in that link - I have done it. I verified all the pins on the motherboard before I put the CPU in (aligning as shown in the link). The 12V 8pin did confuse me. But I did plug in the 4 pin CPU 12V connector as per the link. But it did not make any difference. The blue light on the case turns on after I depress the on/off button on the power supply (as in it is waiting for me to press it to turn on the PC) - but then nothing happens. This is so frustrating :)

It is Rev 1.1. Last 4 digits of SN is 3259. Then there is something like: Check Number 3216. Is the serial number significant - as in something wrong with the motherboard? Just curious :)

Are your case/cpu fans running and is your HDD light on your case displaying any activity? You did not indicate in your previous posts... If not, can you verify/reverify that your HDDs/SSDs connections are seated and connected properly? Not sure if this will help, just reread your post where your pwr light is illuminated but will not power on...

Good question :) The power supply fan doesn't turn on - as in the power supply fan is not rotating - nor is there a light on. And this is an all-black Power supply (no red/yellow/green/green wires :) But I did test the power cable to the power supply - and it is supplying ~120V. It is a dead PC - no lights whatsoever - except for the blue light on the Power On button of the PC Case.

I don't know of any method to update the BIOS without powering on the motherboard. But will update the BIOS. Thanks :)

I missed the part with fans not spinning, but... sometimes sarcasm is good.

Nope ... sorry, but nothing turns on. Trust me, sarcasm is the last thing on my mind - and I really appreciate all of you trying to help me :) Thank you! I just wish the damn thing would turn on - show me something. I know I will learn something from this experience. But my impatience is killing me :)

then you wanna inspect your memory sticks is they sit properly and secure, then inspect cpu for bent pins.

Tested memory sticks. And reseated them again. And I can vouch for no bent pins - because I checked that when I placed the CPU.

Question: How do I check the power supply - on its own? To see if it is supplying power? Can I take it out and check the voltages - outside the case?

An update: I had also purchased a EVGA 750W SLI power supply along with the above (to build another computer). I stripped the motherboard to the basics: CPU, one RAM stick, 1 HDD, Power Supply - and still nothing. Nothing turns on. Surely the odds of having two bad Power Supplies is so low that I would like to tentatively conclude that it is not the Power Supply that is the issue. Again, I truly thank all of you for trying to help. I am at my wits end - at this time :)

Found it! Whew! It was the power cable - that connects the case power switch to the motherboard power on/off pins. Once I replaced that cable (from my old PC), it worked. Once again, thank you all for your help and suggestions. I learnt a lot during the process. Thank you so much!
