I'm looking into building a gaming PC and I got a little confused when I came across this. I'm looking at an Intel core i5 processor and this one I found is almost perfect. The only problem is that it says not compatible with Intel motherboards. Does that mean it's not compatible with motherboards made by Intel, or motherboards with an Intel chipset? Please help me figure this out!

Where are you seeing it's incompatible? Do you already have a motherboard in your possession or on a parts list? The issue might be that the CPU is of a different generation than the board you're looking at. That CPU is 4th gen, the most current for an i5, which uses an 1150-pin CPU socket. That works with an Intel 8- or 9- series chipset (ex, H81, B85, Z87, H97, Z97).

If your board is an older gen board with a different socket and earlier generation chipset, that CPU isn't compatible.

Only Intel chipsets work with current Intel CPUs but the generation and socket must match.
