Ways to Connect Gaming Desktop to Internet without Ethernet Cable?

I am building my first gaming PC in a long time and I have lost my touch on the software part of things you could say. Already I was always kind of shaky at the software side compared to hardware, but since the router is not near me at all, and I'm in a completely different room, what can I do to get internet like an ethernet cable? Thanks everyone. It may be a stupid question, but I like taking precautions and I'd rather before building instead of shit myself while building, so yea...

A wired connection is without a doubt the best way to get connected. Routing cable through walls and attic/crawl spaces is not as hard as it sounds. It really just depends on how much you are willing to spend in money, time and effort.

Powerline network adapters are possibly the next best alternative. A bit costlier than a box of Cat5, but can provide a connection nearly as good. If your router is MoCA capable, I'd recommend having a serious look at one of these adapters.

Wireless is by far the worst way to go, especially for gaming. If you don't have an alternative, do...

To get internet in your room, you have 2 options:
(These are examples < $10)
CAT5 cable @ $9.49 for 50 feet, Ref: http://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-Cat5e-Ethernet-Patch-Cable/dp/B001W26TIW/ref=lp_464398_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1419537569&sr=1-1

OR

Wifi dongle @ $8.88 Ref: http://www.amazon.com/802-11b-802-11n-300Mbps-Long-Range-Wireless/dp/B00FS5M4ME/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1419537620&sr=1-6&keywords=wifi+dongle

So for $10 you can choose cable or dongle. I personally would recommend the dongle, because running cable looks ugly and is a lot of effort in some cases. However, if you need transfer speeds > 300 Mbps, then you'll probably want to look at a 600 Mbps dongle (more expensive) or cable...

P.S. If you are planning to copy large amounts of data '(music, movies, etc) over the network, consider cable. If this is purely for streaming netflix, gaming and surfing the web, then dongle away!

Thanks BuddhaSkoota, I found some really good Powerline network adapters and they seem way better. I still have to look if my router is MoCA compatible, whatever that means, but I really appreciate it!

You don't necessarily need a MoCA capable router, but if you have coax outlets near your router and PC, these adapters allow you to utilize the coax cable in your home as a path for Ethernet. You would just need a pair of adapters to get it to work.

So, MoCA is just another alternative but powerline is fairly popular.
