Hi there I was wondering if I could put a GTX 760 in my system that has a 460w PSU. My friend has an Alienware x51 that has only a 350w PSU and he has a GTX 760 with no problems. I went on PSU calculator and put in my exact specs (with the 760 included) and it said I would be okay. I was just wondering if Nvidia recommends a 500w PSU why is my friend okay with his Alienware and why did PSU calculator say I was fine? Anyone please respond thanks.

i would upgrade it you can run the GPU but its not that...
the calculator is going off of wattage which isn't a good way to measure. the amperage on your power supplies 12 volt rail is what we want to know. dell notoriously uses very high quality power supplies and that is likely why your friend hasn't had any problems. does your power supply have two 6 pin pcie power connectors? what is the brand make model?

alienware puts highend PSU's that are 80 gold certified which have more than 350w i would recommend getting at least 500w bronze certified just so you have headroom for overclocking and all and when you wanna upgrade parts you wont have to change the PSU

I have a Dell XPS 8700 and it does have two 6 pin pcie power connectors, and I am not sure of the PSU brand and make model. So would I be okay upgrading to the 760?

make sure that it has more than 400 watts and its 80 bronze certified
