I want to know what i can upgrade on my older PC for a 4k monitor.

Hi i wanted to move to 4k gaming and really want to upgrade my computer. here are my current specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120503-2030)
System Manufacturer: Alienware
System Model: Aurora-R3
BIOS: BIOS Date: 02/11/11 15:21:57 Ver: 04.06.04
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8174MB RAM
Page File: 4002MB used, 12342MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Graphics Card: AMD HD 6900 Series.

You would certainly have to upgrade your GPU. You didn't specify which 6900 GPU you have (6950, 6970, 6990), but even the 6990 only supports up to 2560x1600.

4K gaming is still at the "early and very expensive" stage. To really be worthwhile rather than just trying to do muddle your way to 30 fps, something like SLIed 980s with a newer i7 (ideally an Ivy Bridge-E or a Haswell-E) is what you would be looking at. And assuming you're using the original parts from Alienware and haven't already made upgrades yourself, you may need a motherboard upgrade and you'll certainly need a better PSU.
