I was assisting a friend in building a pc as I have a few builds under my belt, I plugged everything in properly, while plugging in the graphics card I scratched a little bit of the motherboard near the far edge.

Everything still lit up properly so I assumed I was fine, all fans on (including gpus) and everything but my pc will not display on a monitor, no bios or anything!

So I tested monitor, was working fine, changed from avi to hdmi, nothing still, plugged it into me gpu, nothing, plugged it info my mobo on board video, nothing. Reset my cmos battery nothing..

Some things to mention, I just upgraded from an HP desktop about 2 years old, to a new barebones pc. The only parts I kept from the HP was 1) 2 sticks of ram 2) hardrive (completely reformatted blank) 3) disc drive.

My only thoughts are 1) ram isnt compatable ( idk why ) which is causing it not to post

2) my scratch fkd up the mobo to the point where I need a new one.

Lights are on mobo and everything seems to be working so I hope I dont have to scrap the mobo, any ideas people:( it was my friends xmas gift I feel terrible)

take a couple good pics of the scratch. if the scratch isnt deep enough to cut any of the traces in the mobo and you didnt accidentally knock any of the capacitors off or anything else then the board should be fine.

theres also always a chance that the mobo was DOA to begin with, or that the ram is simply incompatible.

do you have any donor ram from another rig (thats tested as working and atleast technically compatible) that you could try?

1) Here is a picture of the scratch, it was over the tracers, however it was not deep, I was inserting the graphics card and accidentally knicked it a bit on the mobo...

2) I put ram in from my own PC at home, which was just working 1 hr ago, and it did not post, all of the lights are still on, the problem is just no display, the ONLY things that are plugged in right now are

PSU > Motherboard (The big connector)
Motherboard > Monitor
Of course, processor is connected , I double checked, no bent pins.

uhh, you realise that mobo has more than one power connection, right? theres the large 24pin ATX and theres also a smaller secondary 4pin near the top edge of the mobo that-absolutely- has to be plugged in for the system to power up.
also, is the gpu inserted? just covering the basics
