So i just picked up a MSI R9 280, newegg was having a sale so i got it for a steal. every game i play with it runs like a champ BF4 on ultra League of Legends maxed out at a ton of fps (of course) and many other games run extremely well. now my question has to do with the game world of Warcraft im sure many of you know that the game is said to be CPU intensive ect as people say, but im trying to get a rough estimate of the FPS i have is normal i guess you could say. as of right now i play with all settings on high view distance, environmental detail, ground clutter, shadows, water, ect all except things like SSAO, Refraction and AA which i have off. and 2x anisotropic filtering. now the game in the open world runs very well i have vsync on and get a steady 60 fps but what im noticing is in some arenas like loading into a new zone like when im on a flight path i will get around 45fps then it will hover around 60 then sometimes 40 ish again or if i look at certain places wile in my garrison or out in the world like looking far away i will have around 45fps. now i know wow isint really programmed well for new PCs or whatever but is this type of fps normal for a game like wow when i can get 60fps on ultra in BF4. im not expecting 60 fps on ultra everywhere i go i was just curious. i came from a HD 5770 and i was lucky to even get 60 on low settings with the new xpac. i also ran a heaven benchmark last night on extreme and everything looks to be ok so im just wondering if wow really is that badly optimized even for a new PC. im probably just being paranoid thinking this new GPU should run wow at 100000 fps on ultra even tho that wont happen but im just trying to get a rough estimate.

my PC
2500k (stock clocks) I know i can overclock just havent gotten around to it
MSI R9 280 non x
Asrock Extreme 3 Gen 3

your setup is fine if you OC your CPU it will help a lot im running a FX8350 OCed with 2 HD7850s the fps issue has to do with who is in the area and your internet connection think of it this way in your garrison your the only none npc person so the system only has to think about you when your in a capital city everyone logged in is being calculated and with AOE effects going off the gpu has to render that as well making your fps dip for wow aim for a min of 30fps and you will be fine also use the duel profile for raids and set your raids to good and turn down stuff like view range water effects and even sunshafts and shadows wow is coded like crap but blizz has new stuff in the woodworks to optimize your gameplay...

also with your R9 try uninstalling all the amd drivers for it and only installing the basic driver and not Catalyst Control Center

use the amd installer and click the following Custom> will snd you to a checklist only have amd display driver and hdmi audio driver checked hit install and reboot when you are done

let me know if this helped you also if your horde feel free to drop me a line in game HowlingYeti#1461

Checklist

Test wow

keep a record of your fps and use a flight path to test your fps the same one every time to keep it as close as possible every time. wow can be a funny beast on days i get 100fps on others 30fps as blizz updates and adds and takes things away and with player traffic it will be like this

Wow Settings to Change for better FPS:
Graphics TAB
Anti -Aliasing you can set this to FXAA High your gpu can handle it
V-sync for now leave it off
View Distance - good or high - its how big your render circle is and you don't need to see a mountain two zones away
Environment detail - good - good and ultra are about the same the difference is a few flowers but fps gain is worth it
Ground Clutter- -good or high - how thick the grass is personal taste but will help with fps
Shadows - good - with amd cards it likes the good setting go to low or high and fps gets crippled
Liquid Detail - FPS killer i keep mine on Fair it looks like water you jut don't get ripples when you walk in it
Sunshafts- Disabled - they will still be on just wont have the glass glare effect when flying in the sun you can turn it on for screen capture if you want that effect helps with fps a bit
Particle Density -Ultra - flames spells etc you lose a few fps but it looks nice and gives the game its charm if you play with the setting stand next to a torch or fire and watch it go up and down
SSAO- high - adds depth at low cost of fps
Refraction -Disabled - a new setting blizz added its cool but not worth it \

AdvancedTAB
Triple Buffering -Off - kills your fps even when v-sync is off
Reduce Input lag- off unless your having issues when your click a key and the attack goes off super slow or late
hardware cursor - on - allows wow to optimize your mouse settings for game
Graphics API -DX11 - on a side note make sure you update your DX sofware you can get it here -http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/179113

Network settings
Optimize Network for speed - on
Enable ipv6- check if you have ipv6 first if you do then turn it on if you don't leave it off
Advance Combat logging - off

Sounds - check how many sound channels your using the options are 24/32/64 they use your CPU and you can set it to 24 with no issues
it works like this

24= up to 24 sound files at one time can play
32= up to 32 sound files at one time can play
64= up to 64 sound files at one time can play

i know this is a lot it took me a day to optimize my system for wow but now i get amazing fps and no lag wow is the only game i play for the most part to this was all worth it for me the last thing is check your addons if you can post a list of them as well as your antivirus and webprovider and modem i can help you a bit more with settings best of luck!
