Motherboard compatibility with NVIDIA or Amd newer models

I have decided to buy a gpu for my pc. I have a motherboard of gigabyte H61M-D2H ( http://www.game-debate.com/motherboard/index.php?mot_id=1401&motherboard=Gigabyte%20GA-H61M-D2H ) . I want to know that if i go for R7 260 or NVIDIA GTX 660...would my motherboard support the gpu? If yes please explain.

It has a PCie X16 Slot so it will support any GPU. Make sure your PSU has enough 6 pin or 8 pin PCie connectors.

No, not really.Your MoBo has a PCie 2.0X16 and its bandwidth is equivalent to Pcie3.0X8 lanes. And any card can work on a 3.0X8 lanes so don't worry it will work.
