So I recently decided to overclock my i5 since I now have a gtx 970 g1 and figured why not. While it's running idle to low use the temperature is around 34-37 C and when I threw intel stress test on it my temps constantly jump from 67-70's capping for a brief second at 75-77 then dropping back down. I have a cooler master cheaper water cooler I can't remember the name but is this fine or should I just go buy a nicer water cooler for it and lower the overclock for the moment to 3.8 or something.

I have i5 4670k as well @ 4.2 under stress it reaches 58-62 degrees, what is your CPU cooler? have you applied the thermal paste appropriately, since you need to apply a very thin layer or else, it makes things worse rather than better... my cpu cooler is thermalright 120m

Depending how you set your oc, if you left voltages on auto and the bios decides to up your voltage it could be pushing more voltage than necessary for that overclock. If you set it manually you might be able to use a lower voltage and reduce heat. Like others said that's also under full stress and synthetic stability/stress tests push your pc harder than regular usage even gaming.
