Hey all

My first time trying to breadboard my mb to see if it died during the transition. I don't have an on/off button On the mb so I read I can short it with a screwdriver but I have never done anything like it so I don't want to ruin a possibly already ruined mb :)

if this is a large case like the fantom case with led fans then yes the fan port can take the load and your buring the mb out. you can try and clear the cmos see if the mb will post again. large cases with led fans like the fantom have a built in fan controller. there going to be a 4 pin molex cable to power the fan controler from the mb.

if not pick up a 5 channel fan controller at the store when you return the dead mb.
take the gpu off the mb and all the ram see if the mb will power up and beep or show fault. also look on the back of the mb for any shorts to the ports. also if your using a 3 party heat sink check that the bottom of the unit not shorting out or the heat sink on to tight and is crushing the cpu lid. also check for dropped screw or the the mb hitting the bottom of the mb tray. with the power supply unpluged from the mb jumper the green to black wire and see if the unit comes on. if not dead unit.

OK I went out and picked up a mb and started from step one and installed the mb and cpu/heatsink

After I verified it worked I continued to install each component one at a time, testing after each install. I got all parts in except the fans going and that's where I'm running into issues

I picked up a Asus p8 h61-m le and as far as I can tell, only has one fan plug in on the mb besides the cpu fan. The case I have is quite large and has 3 230mm fans and a 150mm fan.

The pc won't start up now after I tried plugging in those fans, is the power too much for that one plug in? Are there external items to help power the fans?
