First time posting, sorry if I make any mistakes.
So I'm running a FX-8350 at stock with a XFX R9 290 with 8gb of 1866 G. Skill ram running at 1600 mhz. I barely just got the game. I started it up and it froze a few times without saying anything. Eventually I got it to continue past the first menu and got into the settings. In the settings it shows my video card with 2.8gb of dedicated VRAM. Seemed odd to me, but, I have no clue if it could mean anything. Soon after running the game for a bit I got the windows message saying something along the lines of not enough memory, close this program (COD AW). I jumped into a match and it's almost unplayable. Ping is fine, but, the game gets super choppy at times. I don't really have that much RAM being used by background stuff. Any ideas on why can't I run this game efficiently with my set up?

8GB is enough, however you may not have it properly allocated. (or don't have 64-bit Windows)

Open TASK MANAGER (CTRL-ALT-DEL)-> Performance-> Memory

The total physically installed should be above the graph on the right.

The "in use" and "available" should almost add up to 8GB. For example, if you REBOOT you might have about 3GB "in use" and 4.8GB "available."

If that doesn't look right, then look down at "Hardware Reserved" which should be very low (mine is 58MB). If that's high you have an issue which MAY be solved by opening msconfig... (Google the words "msconfig hardware reserved" for a solution).

Yeah, I've heard that as well. However, supersampling was off.

I do have 64-bit Windows. I looked at what you said and without the game running, I have 2.8 gb in use and 5.1 gb available. The hardware reserved is at 36 mb.

I was thinking it might be a vram problem. Even though it probably isn't try running the game at low settings and see what happens. Also if you have another monitor available plug it in and then check the ram usage while playing the game.
Also I just found this: http://www.overclock.net/t/1229915/how-to-cpu-and-gpu-usage-along-with-fps-in-game

I first tried it at the automatically assigned settings and then at low settings. It doesn't run well on either settings. Also, I don't have another monitor at hand so unfortunately I can't test that.

The overclock.net link has a tut on the software that can record your usage.

Btw the software doesn't require another monitor.

Try using windows paging file. Solved my problem.
Control panel --> System --> Advanced system settings --> Advanced tab --> Performance settings --> Advanced tab --> Virtual memory --> Change button --> Custom size
Then set them to initial:400 and max to whatever windows recommended.
