Hi Guys,

To clarify - I want this for playing Steam games on PC ONLY - and I don't have wireless on my computer (so i'll need the included wireless dongle - if it really is included?)...

BTW this is for Windows 8/8.1

I'd like a wireless controller - but am worried about potential lag issues in some/or all games... so I'd like to know for certain if I have the option to play with it plugged in instead. And if I need to spend extra on a separate cable to do play plugged in - if so how cheap etc?

I need to find out if a Wireless Xbox 360 controller "FOR PC" will work plugged in as a wired cable on PC as well? And if YES - does every brand new [Wireless Xbox 360 controller "FOR PC"] from the computer shop come with a wireless receiver, usb cable and charger? And can I use the supplied cable to PLUG the wireless remote into the computer - or will I need to buy another cable - and if so what/where can I get it/and for the cheapest?

I've read heaps of conflicting stuff online and talked to 5 computer shops (multiple eb games) and I keep getting different answers to the same questions... the problem being that most if not all of them don't actually use controllers on PC's so they don't really know.

Half of them think you definitely CANNOT plug the controller in and play wired - regardless of what cable you use.... Others think you can but you need a different cable to the one supplied.... and the others think you definitely can do it AND with the cable supplied.

But it's really not even clear if you definitely get a usb cable and charger included in the purchase or if that's extra - on top of the included wireless dongle?

It's not even clear online on the MS site or the store site or any site as to whether the cable and charger are included as standard for the MS 360 wireless controller for PC or not? And just to confuse matters; the web and MS list multiple model no's for the same thing etc!

I really really need confirmation from someone who has ACTUALLY DONE WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT - advice from what someone 'thinks' might work is not helpful as I've had enough unsure advice.

I'm sure there's gotta be some people out there who use controllers on pc who must know from experience? Bloody hope so :)

And before you bother typing it... 'no I don't just want to get a wired one'! And I don't want to spend heaps on an Xbox ONE controller either - too much!

Hope someone can finally clarify this mess for me - cheers :)

Hi

If you want the wireless controller to work with your pc you will need a xbox 360 wireless receiver which plugs in via usb to your pc and does not come with the controller unless it specifically states so when buying it, but usually it's separate. It costs about £15 / $20 ish.

I would definitely buy a legit Microsoft one bc other manufactures use bad quality materials unless it is a reputable brand like razer or pretty much anything in a shop. Its just on sites like ebay they are a bit dodgy.

With the wireless controller you can also get a play and charge kit. This is a usb cable which plugs into your computer and controller. This DOES NOT carry any button signals it is purely for charging your batteries while you play. This too...

The xbox controller and the usb wireless controller receiver will communicate wirelessly one you have synchronised the two by pressing the button on the receiver. I doubt there will be any input lag unless your environment has many devices that operate like this wirelessly. You might need to install the cd.

The easiest and cheapest thing to do is to get a wired controller and just stick in that usb.

Hope that helped and good luck!
