Is my gaming computer build functional and decent for it's price?

Greetings,
I've created a budget gaming build for around $300 at PCPartPicker.com : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tg6Kxr

Being the newbie at building a computer, I was wondering if this build is functional and at least decent for this type of extreme budget. Please, keep in mind that the games I'll be playing are, mostly, source games (TF2, CS:S, Garry's Mod, etc.), League of Legends, Minecraft, and Starbound more or less with Skype on while playing those games. Plus, the occasional surfing, watching YouTube as well as Microsoft Office. Any feedback is recommended, and any recommended change of parts have to keep the build close to around $300. Also, I'm new to Tom's Hardware so Moderators please correct any mistakes on this post, too. Thanks!

BTW: I'll be using Windows 8.1 64-Bit (If that information is useful).

Although unfortunately it seems a bit beyond your current budget at $390.

The alternative is to stick with the pentium and just upgrade to the 740.
Then later you can upgrade your CPU, graphics and RAM when you feel you need it.

I feel like thats the best option for your tight budget.
Good luck!

EDIT: Also don't forget to grab a network adapter for internet access and a sound card when you are shopping around for the best prices. I've forgotten them when creating PC builds before.

My advice is to spend a bit more on the graphics card. The AMD 6450 will let you down very quickly and you will feel like it is wasted money. You seem like a light gamer who is happy with older games and simple graphics so my recommended option is the nvidia 750ti or r7 260x, depending on which is cheaper. They will both run the games you like really well and both will still handle new ones at medium-low settings.

Wow thanks for the quick reply! Another thing, instead of the Nvidia 750TI/R7 260x, do you think that a EVGA GeForce GT 730 1GB would be sufficient? As it meets my tight budget and seems like a middle choice between AMD 6450 and the two cards suggested.

If your budget is that tight then I recommend going the Nvidia 740. Its a cheap card that does its job really well at 1366x768

I also remembered there are some issues with the pentiums as far as gaming. Some of the new games need four threads to play properly. The pentiums have 2 cores and only 2 threads, whereas the i3 4160 has two cores and four threads.

If you can squeeze an intel i3 4160 or AMD FX 6300 into your budget then I highly recommend it.

Here's a couple of comparisons for these chips I recommend.

And the pentium vs the i3 4160

As far as upgrades once you have built your new computer and have money again I would consider getting a second 4GB stick of RAM to slot beside the one you already have. That will make multi-tasking a lot easier.

Good luck!

And believe me the gap between the Nvidia 730 and the Nvidia 740 is huge. I highly recommend springing the extra $20 for the 740 http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GT-740-vs-GeForce-GT-730
